I asked performance artist Anna from Berlin to perform with me in Grunewald, the forest in Berlin. Feeling inspired in the birch forest, I began massaging rotting birch trees. They are soft and elastic, like dried bodies.

The forests of Eastern Europe felt dark and there was something magical, mystical and evocative about the cryptocrystalline light through the canopy. I wanted to feel this in a tangible and real way, so I massaged the trees, trying to find their pulse and talking to them, to feel their connection to the earth and to the people.

In Iceland, I felt the most honest connection with Mother Earth. Iceland is a land beyond the tree line, it is covered in moss and the mountains are always covered in snow. It is a place where you feel like reaching out to the stars, to the sky, to space. The light, by day and by night, is dazzling and mysterious.
Whilst in this wilderness, I was strangely beset with feelings and memories unconnected to the place I was in. I was struck by this anomaly, in the wilds of Iceland I remembered things I had forgotten and felt things which I had numbed myself to, I felt liberated from the concrete blocks of my city life which had locked these thoughts and feelings of memories away.
